Season 1 Synopsis

Hawkins, Indiana | November 6th, 1983
After a late night playing games with his friends, young Will Byers comes across something terrifying and monstrous on his way home. Unable to escape the monster that his friends later name the "demogorgon", Will vanishes, leaving his friends, mom, and brother desperate to find and save him. While searching for their friend in the woods, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas find another child instead. A young girl who has escaped from the Hawkins Laboratory and is desperate to evade the "bad men" that are pursuing her. The boys bring her back to Mike's house to hide and soon realize that the girl called Eleven (the number tattooed on her wrist) has mysterious and powerful supernatural abilities. Meanwhile, Chief Jim Hopper is investigating the strange things that have started happening around their once peaceful town, anxious to help Joyce Byers find her missing son. Government secrets, covered up deaths, supernatural abilities, and terrifying monsters have come to Hawkins, and it will never be the same.
