In his hour of victory, Yawgmoth had Gerrard kill Urza before turning himself into Gerrards then dead wife. Seeing through the deception, he impales Yawgmoth's cheap copy on a spear, trapping him for the final time as he destroy Phyrexia's moon to finally end the tyrant.
A slave by birth, Gideon was gifted the power of invulnerability. His honor and ability to see the good in others would serve him well until eventually, he would substitute himself for Liliana's contract, sacrificing his body, so she could finally overthrow the Dragon-God Nicol Bolas.
Once the student of a sphinx, Jace uses foresight and probability to ensure his reality. He formed a group called The Gatewatch which would eventually fulfill its mission of defeating Nicol Bolas, and he would finally get to travel the multiverse with his gorgon lover, Vraska.
Liliana was a healer from Dominaria. In seeking power, she made a contract through a broker with four demons. She used The Gatewatch to to kill the demons that held her captive, and once she was free, her contract defaulted to the broker: Nicol Bolas. The Dragon then used Liliana to make him a horde of zombie immortals. When Liliana refused, her contract called for her soul, but Gideon took the brunt of it, letting her turn the zombie army against the dragon.
An elf from the plane of Zendikar, Nissa cares deeply for nature. This connection can be seen in her magic as she uses plants to communicate with others from afar as well as the soul of each world she visits. As a planeswalker, she met Chandra, and together they fell in love and joined The Gatewatch, stalling Nicol Bolas long enough for Liliana to deal a devastating blow to his plan.
A hothead through and through. Chandra comes from Kaladesh, a world of machine and ingenuity. Her natural love of crafting is made much more difficult when she burns everything she touches. Her fire magic reacts to her emotions, and she lets loose on friend and foe alike. From the Eldrazi invasion on Zendikar to Nicol Bolas' trap on Dominaria, Chandra is always there to help with fire.
The scheming dragon of the spiritual realm. After the death of Yawgmoth, he set a plan in motion to capture all multiverse travelers (called planeswalkers), steal their magic, and become so powerful he could warp reality. He was eventually defeated by The Gatewatch, but not before causing irreparable harm to the fabric of the universe.
